melt half a stick of butter in a nice big pot. add about half an onion sliced in long strips.... mmmm....yummmy. But wait, there's more... add an entire 28 oz. can of whole peeled tomatoes, chop 'em up first, add all of the saucy stuff from the can and then simmer for about 45 minutes.
this will make you warm and fuzzy, for real though. the scent has a calming soothing quality and the temptation to mindlessly mash the tomatoes with a spatula while they slowly break apart is better than any kind of therapy I've ever paid for. you should try it.
don't say i didn't tell you so. and don't forget the salt.
the reason i posted this here is because it's made with half a stick of butter, which I knew Ian would appreciate. after watching him cook over Christmas, I thought he would like yet another recipe which starts by filling the pan with butter. bon apetit!
ReplyDeletePS - the recipe is from a food blog i've been reading that Brittany shared with me. if you want more of these euphoric yet simple cooking experiences, you should check it out. orangette.com
try this sauce on rice, you will be born again. oh yeah, i said it.
on second thought, do yourself a favor and make yourself a DOUBLE batch, for some leftovers. I just inhaled half of the batch by myself, and Eric isn't even home yet.
